Welcome to Fall

How did it get to be October already? Not that I dislike this month. I love October! It has my two favorite holidays, my birthday and Halloween. It just seems that since July the second half of the year has flown by. I’m usually knee deep in crochet projects by now.

I have sent out a birthday gift on time. And I have my list for the rest of the birthdays and holidays between now and the end of the year. We have a lot in our family.

I do have to try not to get distracted by football. Keeping my anxiety in check is harder, though. That requires not watching the news so much. Updating social media for the business sites can be tricky sometimes because people on those sites are also talking about the news. But I’m learning how to tune out the static. I have to or I get so upset I can’t accomplish anything.

And I want to get stuff done. I have several projects just on the gift list to do between now and Christmas. Plus the new pieces I want to do for my Etsy shop. And I want to be here more, also. I miss being here. I miss writing when I don’t do it often enough. I have been writing some poetry. Need some more of that, too. I’ll be back soon. Promise…

Being Creative During a Pandemic

For creative people, stress can take away creative energy. A global pandemic is a lot of prolonged stress. I’m not here to preach about masks or vaccines or who and where it started. No politics. That’s a whole other realm of stress. I’m talking about just the daily level of seeing so much news cycle dedicated to such a depressing storyline.

Yes, I know we need good information from experts in their fields. We have to ask questions and get answers then ask more questions. That is how we advance as a society. But the constant bombardment can get overwhelming. So what is a creative person to do?

Unplug for a while. Take a break from the news. Schedule how often you will allow yourself to catch up on the news enough to stay informed and from what sources. Then go make a quite place where you can do the creative things that make you happy.

Do them often. Share them on your social media. Happiness is what we all need right now. It gives hope that there is an end to all this madness on the other side. And we all need a little more hope right now.
