Distractions

The world is a mad place at the moment. Sometimes I just need to put on my headphones and find a distraction. I might cook something, bake, or make something. I could end up gardening or painting, or sewing something new. Sometimes I work jigsaw puzzles or draw or color in my coloring books. These are the things I do when I’m not crocheting. And I crochet all the time.

I learned to crochet before YouTube. Well, before the internet really. I learned out of a book with pictures that had little arrows that showed which way the stitches were supposed to go. I still have that book. A hardback copy of a Redheart pattern book. I have a stack of leaflet patterns at least a couple inches thick, also. Blankets and pillows. And a separate stack of small leaflets just for baby stuff. More than I will ever make, for sure. I bet I’m not alone with this stash of patterns any more than my stash of yarn.

The paper patterns have been surpassed now by Pinterest and Google and YouTube. Yet even with the entire internet at our fingertips I still see people online asking for help with ideas on what to make or what colors to use or what hook size. Don’t you know how to Google? Do you have Pinterest? How did you find this group if you can’t look for something online? Sorry. It just irks me that people can follow a complicated mandala pattern but can’t figure out how to search Pinterest for something new. Oh, well…

I guess I need a new distraction. Maybe I will write a new scarf pattern. I could post it for you next time I’m here. I promise not to be away too long. Now, where is my hook…

Work, work, work

Feels like I worked as hard over the weekend as I did this past week. I thought you were supposed to rest on weekends? Oh wait, that’s right. I’m launching a business. And I have 20 tomato plants in containers on the deck. And I keep adding plants to the small patio on our back entryway. So yeah, no rest for me.

But I would not have it any other way right now. I actually got more done than expected even if it wasn’t as much as I wanted. Most of my to-do list was marked off. And I am further along than I could be considering my Chrome book decided it did not like something I was doing and tried to fight back.

But I am still crafting. I completed a revamp of a design of an adorable little owl. And I made a backdrop for finished pictures. I will be posting some of those very soon. So progress is being made. It’s taken me over 30 years to get this far. Another week or so shouldn’t kill me. Back to my hook for now…

News and stuff

Good news. Not the depressing stuff on TV.

My Etsy and Ravelry shops will be open soon! Just wanted to let you know in case you noticed those little links on the Home page. I will be selling primarily patterns that you can crochet yourself. They will be digital downloads. It is the safest thing to do in the age of Corona Virus. You don’t even have to get out of your pajamas.

I will definitely let you know once the sites are live. You will find patterns for all the things I enjoy making. Amigurumi animals of all shapes and sizes, monsters, pretty scarves, baby blankets and toys, and lots more. I hope you will enjoy them, too. For now though, where did I put my coffee cup…

Nice to meet you…

Hi! I’m Becca. I’m addicted to crafting, coffee and loud music. I’ve been crocheting for over 35 years. I decided it was time to inflict it… I mean share it with more than just my friends and family. I also make costumes, paint, container garden, and I’ve been known to pick up a power tool on occasion. And I don’t just mean a hot glue gun! Grab a hook and some yarn a find you a seat. And thanks for stopping by!
