Welcome to Fall

How did it get to be October already? Not that I dislike this month. I love October! It has my two favorite holidays, my birthday and Halloween. It just seems that since July the second half of the year has flown by. I’m usually knee deep in crochet projects by now.

I have sent out a birthday gift on time. And I have my list for the rest of the birthdays and holidays between now and the end of the year. We have a lot in our family.

I do have to try not to get distracted by football. Keeping my anxiety in check is harder, though. That requires not watching the news so much. Updating social media for the business sites can be tricky sometimes because people on those sites are also talking about the news. But I’m learning how to tune out the static. I have to or I get so upset I can’t accomplish anything.

And I want to get stuff done. I have several projects just on the gift list to do between now and Christmas. Plus the new pieces I want to do for my Etsy shop. And I want to be here more, also. I miss being here. I miss writing when I don’t do it often enough. I have been writing some poetry. Need some more of that, too. I’ll be back soon. Promise…

Distractions

The world is a mad place at the moment. Sometimes I just need to put on my headphones and find a distraction. I might cook something, bake, or make something. I could end up gardening or painting, or sewing something new. Sometimes I work jigsaw puzzles or draw or color in my coloring books. These are the things I do when I’m not crocheting. And I crochet all the time.

I learned to crochet before YouTube. Well, before the internet really. I learned out of a book with pictures that had little arrows that showed which way the stitches were supposed to go. I still have that book. A hardback copy of a Redheart pattern book. I have a stack of leaflet patterns at least a couple inches thick, also. Blankets and pillows. And a separate stack of small leaflets just for baby stuff. More than I will ever make, for sure. I bet I’m not alone with this stash of patterns any more than my stash of yarn.

The paper patterns have been surpassed now by Pinterest and Google and YouTube. Yet even with the entire internet at our fingertips I still see people online asking for help with ideas on what to make or what colors to use or what hook size. Don’t you know how to Google? Do you have Pinterest? How did you find this group if you can’t look for something online? Sorry. It just irks me that people can follow a complicated mandala pattern but can’t figure out how to search Pinterest for something new. Oh, well…

I guess I need a new distraction. Maybe I will write a new scarf pattern. I could post it for you next time I’m here. I promise not to be away too long. Now, where is my hook…
